Counsel
to the Firm
Practice:
Mr. Holder serves as counsel to the firm after more
than thirty years of civil trial practice in state and
federal courts throughout Washington State.
Mr. Holder began trying cases in 1967. He has been fortunate
to have been engaged in a broad and challenging nature
of litigation matters. A majority of his litigation
was insurance defense, whereby he represented insurance
companies directly on insurance coverage and alleged
bad faith claims and also whereby he represented insureds
on a wide range of claims, including automobile, product
liability, and medical malpractice claims. Periodically
and when there was no actual or perceived conflict of
interest with firm clients, Mr. Holder successfully
pursued plaintiffs' personal injury claims. This experience
on both sides of the litigation process has provided
a heigtened degree of objectivity as well as a keen
appreciation for the specialized lawyering skills involved
in both prosecuting and defending civil claims. In addition,
Mr. Holder has been retained by national firms to represent
their interests in the Northwest. For example, Mr. Holder
worked for The Procter & Gamble Company in defending
numerous toxic shock syndrome cases and in defending
challenges to the company's diaper patents. Mr. Holder
represented a local cellular communications company
in recovering damages for unjustified rate discrimination
under Section 202(a) of the Communications Act. In addition,
as an outgrowth of representing physicians and hospitals
in medical malpractice claims, Mr. Holder has worked
closely with administrations of hospitals in an oversight
and risk management capacity to lessen potential liability
exposures.
Education and Background:
Mr. Holder was born and raised in Bloomington-Normal,
Illinois. After receiving a B.S. in economics and J.D.
at the University of Illinois at champaign-Urbana, Mr.
Holder moved to Washington State, where he has devoted
his entire law career since 1967 as a trial attorney
with Reed McClure. Mr. Holder and his wife, Lorraine,
have four grown children and reside on Camano Island.
